Competitive Master's Programs in Germany + German Level Requirements
I've previously posted about English level requirements for competitive Master's programs in America (NYC), Australia, the UK, and Canada. Today, I'm looking at some competitive programs in Germany, taught in German, and what level you'll need for that.
Here’s a breakdown with a focus on Goethe, TestDaF, and telc requirements (for foreign-born applicants).
L = Listening, R = Reading, W = Writing, S = Speaking
Program @ University | Goethe | TestDaF | telc |
---|---|---|---|
Masters in Civil Engineering @ Technical University of Munich | C2 | 4x4 | C1 |
MQE @ LMU Munich | C2 | 4x4 | C1 |
LLM @ Heidelberg | C2 | ≥19 points total, (5 in W, R, and L, and a 4 in S | Not Listed |

Things to Note
- Waivers may be available if you completed a prior degree in German (or spent time in degree programs in your home country that were taught in German), but this depends on the program.
