China Launches K-Visa in 1 Week
Starting October 1st China will offer a K type visa, which sounds similar to the UK's HPI and Taiwan's equivalent, both of which I've written about here and here.
The visa is aimed at "young" STEM talent who work in the fields of education, culture, science/technology, and entrepreneurship/business. The key is that, like its counterparts in the UK and Taiwan, the K-type visa will not require an existing offer of employment from a Chinese company.
There's a lot that still needs to be defined, including exactly who qualifies as young, and what exactly qualifies as entrepreneurship/business activity in a desired field. It sounds like, at a minimum, educational background and work experience will be taken into account.
While not purely dependent on which school you graduated from, the visa is nonetheless pretty unique globally for not requiring an existing offer of employment to live and work in China.
