Frequently Asked Questions
What is the TDN scale?
TestDaF scores range from TDN 3 to TDN 5 for each section. TDN 3 roughly corresponds to B2, TDN 4 to C1, and TDN 5 to C1+/C2. Scores below TDN 3 are reported as 'unter TDN 3'.
Is TestDaF or Goethe better for university?
For German university admission, TestDaF is the standard choice. It's designed specifically for university-level German. Goethe C2 (GDS) is also accepted but TestDaF at TDN 4 is sufficient for most programs.
How many times per year can I take TestDaF?
The paper-based TestDaF is offered 6 times per year worldwide. The digital TestDaF is available more frequently. You can retake the test as many times as needed.
