How does my move abroad plan work?
Your personalized move abroad plan is organized into chapters that guide you from research to settlement
The five chapters
Your plan is built around five chapters:
- Research & Planning: Compare cities, explore visa options, and pick a destination. This is where everyone starts
- Qualifications & Docs: Build language skills, gather documents, and get credentials recognized
- Application & Approval: Submit visa applications, track certifications, and work with immigration experts
- Transition: Book flights, sort out housing, handle the logistics of the actual move
- Settlement: Find your people, handle local bureaucracy, and get settled in your new city
Gap analysis
The gap analysis tool looks at your destination, visa pathway, and personal situation to identify what you still need to do:
- Set your target move date and visa pathway to generate your personalized gap analysis
- Each requirement is flagged as met, caution, or gap based on your answers
- You can override any assessment if you know your situation better than the tool does
- Milestones span multiple chapters, so requirements from Chapter 3 might start being relevant in Chapter 2
- Regenerate your analysis anytime your plans change (new destination, different visa pathway, updated timeline)
Document tracking
Keep all your relocation documents organized in one place:
- Upload documents and link them to specific milestones in your journey
- Track document status: uploaded, in progress, submitted, decision received
- See at a glance which milestones still need documents
- Documents are stored securely in your personal vault
Application tracking
Track the status of applications and approvals across your journey:
- Create tracking items for visa applications, credential recognitions, and other formal processes
- Link relevant documents to each application
- Set deadlines and track status from not started through submitted to approved
- Connected to your gap analysis milestones so everything stays in sync
Working with experts at each stage
Different chapters call for different types of help:
- Research: Use the Go Where You're Wanted tool to compare destinations, then talk to experts about specific countries
- Qualifications: Language tutors for certification exams, coaches for career transition planning
- Application: Immigration consultants for visa applications, financial advisers for cross-border tax planning
- Transition & Settlement: Housing specialists for finding a place, coaches for cultural adjustment
