Language certification continues to be a growing business, and I got curious about the actual numbers of test takers per year. Here's what I could find from official sources in recent years:

DELF/DALF:

2025 published numbers indicate 600K+ people sat for all language proficiency exams in 2024 administered by france education international. This includes, but is not limited to, DELF/DALF.

GOETHE:

2025 published numbers indicate 1.1MM people sat for all language proficiency exams in 2024 administered by Goethe-Institut.

IELTS:

2024 published numbers indicate 4MM+ people sat for the IELTS in 2023.

EIKEN:

2023 published numbers indicate 4.2MM people sat for the EIKEN in 2023.
